Diann Uustal certainly looks younger than she is.
"62, and the grandmother of five wonderful kids," she proudly proclaims.
Based on her performance today at the Senior Olympics swimming trials, you wouldn't think that just 6 months ago, she was recovering from a major fall.
"I had a very bad accident and fell, and pulled all three hamstrings off my leg. Broke my shoulder, tore out the rotator cuff, and I had a wonderful surgeon here in town," she says.
Part of her recovery has been spent in the pool. And up until this year, she hadn't competed since 1982.
While we were there, she took first place in both of the competitions she was in.
Ginny Stone with the Senior Olympics says first place doesn't mean much to most of these seniors.
The real joy is just being able to compete.
"They're very very welcoming to each other and they're welcoming to all levels, which really surprised me because we got some really fantastic swimmers," Stone says.
Swimmers that range anywhere from their 50s, into their 80s. Stone says, "you know, when i was 6, 30 was old. but now when you're 80 and winning gold medals, it changes your whole view."
For Diann, the last thing on her mind is her age.
"Age is a number," she says. "Mostly its for the spiritual and mental health and conditioning of course, but i've never thought of age has being a big deal yet."
