Through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors provides civic engagement and employment opportunities for adults who are over the age of 55, live in Hamilton County, are able and willing to perform 20 hours of community service per week and meet income eligibility guidelines.
We believe that older workers provide a valuable resource to the needs of a 21st century workforce. Through the SCSEP program, we are committed to providing high quality job training and employment assistance to our participants. At the same time, we are also committed to assisting area nonprofits that are facing the challenges of today’s workplace by developing a viable workforce that is trained and ready to work.
SCSEP participants are paid minimum wage while they gain marketable job skills working part-time in non-profit organizations, including senior centers and schools. The program provides a win-win for participants and their communities: Participants help community organizations extend their reach and capabilities, while developing their own job skills, self-confidence, and a restored sense of self-worth.
SCSEP Benefits Participants by:
- Building confidence
- Learning new skills
- Providing paid training
- Providing in-demand work experience
- Providing added income
SCSEP Benefits Local Non-Profit and Government Agencies by:
- Providing older workers who, while training, expand agency’s capacity to provide services
- Providing agency opportunity to evaluate loyal workers in training for possible hire
- Reducing “loss of productivity” due to reduced absenteeism from dependable older workers
